Schedule
Friday, January 18th
6:30pm//Spanish Immersion

4:30pm//Door's Open-Check In
5:00pm//Our Place
Gladys Schaefer
What is 'Our Place' as educators, as parents? What kind of atmosphere should we have as our place? Gladys will help us to understand our role in our children's education as Charlotte Mason taught in her philosophy of education.
6:45pm//Dinner
We will enjoy encouragement, support, and fellowship with one another as we break bread together. Our feast will consist of a soup bar, salad, breads, and a yummy treat.
Saturday, January 19th
8:30am//Doors Open
Join us for coffee and fellowship before we start our ideas-filled day.
9:00am//Mathematics and Charlotte Mason’s Great Recognition
Richele Baburina
Charlotte Mason’s oft-quoted words on the importance of the teacher over the textbook can stand like a scowling guard forbidding us to trespass into the domain of the math teacher. See how we can enter the realm of mathematics with confidence, holding the key that the One through whom mathematical laws came to be instructs not only our children but ourselves as well.
10:00am//Coffee Break
10:30pm//Brush Drawing Immersion
Richele Baburina
We'll have a moment of painting with Richele leading us through her tips and techniques on how to do brush drawing.
12:00m//Lunch
For lunch we will be ordering a variety of deli sandwiches to have with a side of fruit and chips. You are welcome to bring your own, or to go and get your own from a nearby restaurant. There are a few restaurants nearby.
1:00am//The Wide Biodiversity of Alabama
Amy Sides
Alabama is a hotspot of biological diversity. For every square mile, more than twice as many species live in Alabama than in any other place on the continent. The Mobile River basin alone holds more different kinds of freshwater turtles and snails than anywhere else in the world, and Alabama has more species of freshwater fish, mussels, and crayfish than any other state. Additionally, Alabama ranks particularly high in cave fauna, reptiles and amphibians, and carnivorous plant biodiversity. For the number of endemic species, that is those found only in Alabama and nowhere else in the world, we are ranked seventh in the US. Among the factors contributing to this amazing biodiversity are Alabama’s warm, moist climate and its geologic diversity. This session will focus on Alabama’s amazing biodiversity and ways to explore it with your students.
